HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Native Music Rocks, a series of musical concerts held throughout the country promoting Native American musicians, is making a stop in South Florida for a free concert on Thursday, February 12 in Seminole Paradise at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (near the Improv and Seminole Museum) at 7 p.m.
The Micki Free Electric Blues Experience, Derek Miller Band, Martha Redbone, Casper, and special guest and 2008 Seminole Star Search Winner Paula Bowers-Sanchez are scheduled to perform for this event kicking-off the Seminole Tribal Fair being held throughout the weekend.
Featuring Grammy® award-winner Micki Free, the Micki Free Experience also showcases Jon Brant, formerly of Cheap Trick; Shea, a Cherokee recording artist known for her re-recording of the hit single "Seminole Wind" made famous by country music recording artist John Anderson; and Hawk, a member of Crown of Thorns who's performed with Van Morrison, Lee Ann Womack, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.
Derek Miller, a young Native American blues-rooted rock guitarist and singer/songwriter recently released new album, The Dirty Looks, and is celebrating the launch of multimedia entertainment company, Derek Miller Enterprises.
Martha Redbone, Choctaw/Shawnee/Cherokee artist channels old-school soul, rock, funk, jazz, blues and traditional Native American music and has caught the attention of legends like Bonnie Raitt, George Clinton/Parliament Funkadelic, Rita Coolidge and Taj Mahal.
Casper Lomayesva is a Hopi/Dine' singer who combines his native roots with the positive vibes of reggae music.
Last year's Seminole Star Search grand-prize winner, Paula Bowers-Sanchez, is a South Florida native who's pursuing a career in singing and acting and various other projects through her company, Corn Dance Productions.
